Apprentice Case Study - Frankie Macviegh

Frankie Macveigh - Apprentice Estimator/Administrator

Frankie is currently studying towards a Level 3 in Business Administration with City of Bristol College. He is based at one of our Host companies, Window Glass. Window Glass design, manufacture and install innovative architectural aluminium systems for the construction industry.

Frankie started his apprenticeship booking in enquiries to the business and is now assisting the Senior Estimator with live projects and has taken on the responsibility of pricing jobs for the company in order to win more business.

Frankie’s Apprenticeship has enabled him to work in a variety of areas within the business, working alongside the sales and estimating team, technical sales personnel, sales manager, senior estimator and the sales department.

Frankie made the decision to do an apprenticeship because "I saw it as the best way to get into a career with a good company; University didn’t appeal to me and I prefer the practicality of learning on the job"

Frankie had previously been a student at college "At college it was all about passing exams, having this apprenticeship I get to see what happens in a business first hand"

There were several administration vacancies available when Frankie applied to SWAC and with the help of his Learner Account Manager, Yasmin, a placement was found that was well suited to his needs. "I feel this is the right company for me to develop and learn with therefore, I am working hard and learning a lot. This apprenticeship is helping me develop as a person and giving me the motivation to better myself in the future both professionally and personally"

Frankie understands the impact of the apprenticeship "Doing the apprenticeship means I am working towards a career, it’s all about the long term and the apprenticeship will help me have a better future and a great career. I’m learning new skills and gaining a qualification at the same time!"

Frankie has seen the benefit of being supported by the South West Apprenticeship Company (SWAC) "If it wasn’t for SWAC I wouldn’t be where I am now! Yasmin stays in contact with regular reviews and phone calls helping me with work and college"

Frankie has been featured in a newspaper article during National Apprenticeship Week "My parents were very proud of me and I enjoyed being featured in the newspaper and talking about the benefits of an apprenticeship"

Frankie’s Manager said "Frankie has demonstrated a good degree of understanding with regards to the business and the need for teamwork throughout the business. He is keen to help out in other departments in the business and tie his work experiences to his apprenticeship. He is a valuable member of the team on both a personal and professional level"
