Apprentice Case Study - Olivia Mead

Olivia is a Business Administration apprentice at N Trimby Electrical Services Ltd. Olivia started her apprenticeship in August 2016 and is progressing well.
Olivia’s role within the company is office administration and support. This role includes a range of duties from answering phone calls, creating new jobs and putting them on the system, action incoming emails to carrying out an Inspection of all the Operatives Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) and replacing them if needed.
Olivia explained why she chose the apprenticeship route “With an apprenticeship I had the option of being in education and getting a wage every month, it was everything I had ever wanted, an apprenticeship was perfect for me.”
Olivia is really enjoying her Apprenticeship “My apprenticeship placement is going very well. My independence and confidence has improved so much, both personally and in within my workplace. This apprenticeship has given me the ability to be more confident as a person. I have learnt that everyone makes mistakes and the only way forward is to learn and improve from them. I am getting the education that I need to be a business administrator and have got a lot of support from Trimby, Swac and City of Bristol College.”
“Dealing with the public and being an administrator is a particular part of my job that I enjoy as that was what I wanted to have within my apprenticeship. I enjoy answering phone calls as appropriate and taking the necessary actions to deal with the call. I also enjoy dealing with ICT based jobs as these are the two main things I wanted to do within my apprenticeship.”
“I attend City of Bristol College once a week and I have recently passed my ICT level 2 course.”
Olivia explained how SWAC have supported her throughout the apprenticeship so far “I had a meeting with Shelley King from SWAC and she really gave me confidence within my apprenticeship. I was provided with contact details and she insured me that if I had any problems I could call or email her anytime I needed to. Shelley has been a massive influence within my experience of my apprenticeship and has given me a lot of confidence and independence.”
Olivia is keen to promote apprenticeships and SWAC to others “I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship to people that are thinking about jobs as an apprenticeship can provide you with education and a wage.”
“The following year of my apprenticeship I hope to move on to a level 3 Business & professional administration apprenticeship and then move on to higher education.”
