Case Study

Former Apprentice Case Study - Emily Atkinson

Emily completed a Business Administration Level 3 apprenticeship at Central Asset Finance Ltd.

Emily explained why she enjoyed her apprenticeship “I enjoyed my apprenticeship as it was flexible and I easily adapted to my role within my host organisation, I liked that I was able to pick the units that I wanted to complete, as this enabled me to work to my strengths. From the wide range of topics that were available, I was able to choose the ones that I wanted to improve my knowledge on.”

“I enjoyed going to college once a week, learning new topics mixing with other apprentices and hearing about their experiences. My best method for learning is working on the job so an apprenticeship was perfect for me. Starting with no experience of administration, I have progressed in so many ways since then.”

Emily is now a full time member of staff at Central Asset Finance Ltd “I’m still working at Central Asset Finance. Once I had completed my apprenticeship, I was offered the role of an Internal Accounts Administrator. The directors here have also supported me in taking a new route and I am now studying Accounting at Level 2.”

“I wanted to keep progressing and gaining new qualifications so I explored the different options that were available and have found a new course that I am really enjoying. Central Asset Finance have always wanted me to keep moving forward by achieving new skills, both inside and outside of the business. I am looking to start a level 3 in Accounting in September.”

Emily explained how the apprenticeship helped within her current job role “My apprenticeship has enabled me to gain the skills needed within a business admin role. I had no experience of working in an office before so everything was new to me. I now pride myself in my communication and IT skills. I am confident when speaking to customers and suppliers over the phone.  Thanks to my apprenticeship I have a good understanding of how a business works, what it needs to be successful and regulations it needs to follow.”

Emily is keen to promote apprenticeships and SWAC to others “Go for it. With SWAC I always had support. They help you to find an apprenticeship and workplace that suits you and they are there throughout the whole process. I found a business that worked for me and I am now able to see the positive impact that I make to the business.”

“SWAC made the experience easier for me from the start. I met with an Account Manager who prepared me for my interview and gave me great tips which got me the job! Things like this made the experience less intimidating. The thought of going into a brand new job with no experience was so daunting but starting the process with SWAC helped make everything look so much more achievable.”

“Hard work never went unnoticed with the SWAC team, which gives you so much motivation. I was lucky enough to be nominated for the Bristol and Bath Post (Financial) Outstanding Apprentice of the Year Award.”
