Apprentice Case Study - Ryan Buxton

Ryan is currently studying towards a Level 2 in Electrical Engineering and Electronics with City of Bristol College.  He is based at one of our Bristol Host companies.  Ryan’s Host are at the forefront of MFD, office print, copying, scanning, workflow and archiving technology. They have a number of offices located across the South/South West, offering market-leading technology from Ricoh, Xerox, Canon and Lexmark combined with innovative software solutions to enhance office functions.

 

Ryan’s Apprenticeship has enabled him to work in a variety of areas within the business, working alongside the installation teams, understanding orders and distribution of parts, toner and small devices, distribution of parts to engineers enabling them to repair damaged/broken machines, booking-in of equipment/parts used to help setup/prepare the machines together with repairs of returned machines.

After completing his A/S levels, in Maths, English, Business and Psychology, Ryan felt that he wanted to make the transition into employment, based in a role that allowed him to pursue his interest in engineering.

Ryan saw several vacancies that appealed to him, he applied on-line and within weeks of applying, Ryan was offered an Apprenticeship. I enjoy everything about it from the practical hands on approach to the drawings and theory work at the desk; I think it was the job role for me”

“Getting an Apprenticeship allows you to experience working-life while you’re still young enough to progress onto other ventures if things don’t work out. I am a strong academic student, but an Apprenticeship allows you to put your theory/knowledge into use and apply yourself practically; meaning you can learn the practical side and get the knowledge of how the industry operates”

On completion, I would like to study to a higher-level, possibly a Level 4 Apprenticeship to help me reach my potential”

Ryan has also seen the benefit of having a dedicated Learner Account Manager My Account Manager is on hand to offer information, advice and guidance at all stages and to make me realise the positive impact I am having within my Apprenticeship”

Ryan’s Workshop and Academy Manager said Ryan has been with us for over a year now and in that time he has grown as an apprentice. When he came to us he had very little experience in the areas needed to become a Service Engineer. Ryan has grown in confidence, he has shown dedication and determination, and I am looking forward to working with him in the next stage of his training”
