Full Description of Vacancy:
A great opportunity has arisen within Accord Healthcare Ltd, Barnstaple for Engineering apprentices to join their team.  You will complete the Advanced and Higher Apprenticeship and will have the opportunity to advance further on completion.
 
Accord Healthcare Ltd is one of the world's leading players in the development, manufacture, and sale of first-class generic pharmaceuticals. 
 
This is a training role working towards providing a comprehensive, multi-skilled engineering service covering the installation, commissioning, maintaining and modifying of plant equipment and services used in the manufacture, packaging and distribution of pharmaceuticals. To achieve these objectives the Engineering Apprentice will achieve completion of a recognised Advanced Apprenticeship, undergoing a structured training programme working to NVQ Level 3 and studying toward HNC/D or Foundation Degree level qualifications.
 
You will need to consistently demonstrate excellent customer service and role model cultural behaviours in accordance with the Accord Healthcare Ltd OWW Competencies. 
 
Purpose of the role:
This is a training role working towards providing a comprehensive, multi-skilled engineering service covering the installation, commissioning, maintaining and modifying of plant equipment and services used in the manufacture, packaging and distribution of pharmaceuticals. 
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop the skills to maintain and troubleshoot a variety of electro / mechanical production equipment and site services systems and equipment according to team and individual plans.
  • Learn how to Analyse, develop and implement cost effective solutions to improve machine efficiency, reliability and performance. 
  • Gain experience in order to coordinate and deliver Planned Maintenance, offering flexibilities as required by the needs of the business.
  • Ensure EHS, GMP and process / validation compliance via risk assessment, PUWER, LOTO and manual handing adherence.
  • Ensure effective communication and customer service is delivered between all levels and shifts within your direct team and also as needed with all relevant departments eg production / packaging / site engineering, PDTS, QA.
  • Gain knowledge and experience of planned and reactive maintenance schedules and constantly review and modify these to ensure they are correct, taking into account any manufacturer’s recommendations, experience and machine history, so that they reduce / eliminate breakdowns, maximise the efficiencies of any planned maintenance and are cost effective.
  • Build confidence and liaise with contractors, engineering specialists, machine manufacturers and parts / spares suppliers

Essential Skills:
  • IT skills with the ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook and databases.
  • Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the contribution that engineering roles make to profitability.
  • Numerate, with good attention to detail.
Desirable Skills:
  • Some experience of working in a large business or in a pharmaceutical environment. 
As part of the apprenticeship, you will be required to attend training off site on a regular basis.
 
Qualifications required:
5 GCSE’s at A*- C grade to include English, Maths and a technical based subject ie. D&T or equivalent.
 
Work based experience will also be considered, as will any relevant engineering qualifications.
 
38 hours per week 
Monday to Friday - Shifts
Hours of work are:
6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm Monday to Thursday (including 1x 15min and 1x 30min Paid break)
6am-12pm / 12pm-6pm Friday (1x 30min Paid break)
 
£7.15 per hour
