Full Description of Vacancy:
A great opportunity for a school or college leaver to join an academy School in Malmesbury and become a part of their Science Technician Team.  We are looking for individuals that are keen and motivated to work in a laboratory and scientific environment.  
 
During your apprenticeship you will train as a Science Technician and learn practical scientific skills. You will also learn about the fundamentals of science, pick up practical skills and complete an Apprenticeship in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (Education Science).
 
The main purpose of the role is to prepare resources and set up Scientific equipment and resources for School experimentation.  
 
Key Responsibilities: 
  • Prepare equipment and practical materials for lessons
  • Ensure safe storage of materials and equipment
  • Maintain science rooms to ensure a safe and clean working environment
Job Role:
  • Prepare equipment and practical materials prior to lessons 
  • Deliver equipment to classes and collect, check and return to ensure that it is safely, securely and appropriately stored
  • Clearing up after lessons to include cleaning glassware, loading dishwasher etc.
  • Support set-up of equipment and experiments 
  • Support the other Science Technicians
  • Maintain science rooms and equipment to ensure a safe and clean working environment
  • Service, repair or construct equipment under the supervision of the Senior Technician
  • Safe disposal of waste
  • Follow health and safety procedures for scientific or technical activities 
  • Maintain effective and efficient working relationships for scientific or technical activities 
  • Use information recordings systems for scientific or technical activities

Qualifications required:
5 A*-C GCSEs (grades 5 to 9) including Mathematics, English Language
and Science or equivalent
 
A or AS Level qualification in Science or a First Diploma (BTEC) in Applied Science or equivalent
 
37 hours per week – term time only
Monday to Thursday 8.30 am to 4.30 pm and Friday 8.30 am to 4.00 pm
With a ½ hour unpaid lunch break
