Michelle and Riette are responsible for the supervision and management of Apprentices at Windowlink Ltd, a growing business in the IT Technical Support/Customer Service sector.

They explained the initial reasons as to why they wanted to take on an apprentice and what attracted them to SWAC “We had just heard a report about the benefits of using apprentices in the workplace and as new owners of an established business we were confident that this was the route we wanted to take to help with recruitment.”

Having been frustrated at trying to fill roles, being able to hand this over to SWAC to complete for us made the process a lot easier for us. As well as this we wanted to recruit and train from scratch and develop the skills and talents of apprentices.”

Michelle and Riette described the benefits from having Apprentice’s within their business “This has been a good experience and bringing some youth into the business as well as some updated experience with regards to technology has been very beneficial. Also having apprentices means that they don’t come with pre-conceived ideas and can be moulded and have grown organically within our business.

Both apprentices that we have had through SWAC have completed their IT qualifications with South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGSC) they have now finished and we like the course due to the number of options that were available for us to choose from and any issues that we came across were resolved and quickly.”

They explained the benefits of having the support from SWAC, and particularly the Learner Account Manager – Shelley “The support from our Account Manager Shelley has been great and SWAC have always been on the end of the phone if we have needed help.

It has been great to have the support from the beginning, as a new business we had a lot to deal with and knew that apprentices would support our growth. SWAC were able to take all the responsibility away from us, the HR support was great too.”

We asked Michelle and Riette what the future holds for the business after taking on the Apprentice’s full time “We would like to continue to develop our staff and in comparison to graduates, they have developed just as well and have been prepared to learn everything from scratch. There is a very positive future for our apprentices.”
