We have an opportunity to work within the support team of a large GP practice. This is a varied administration role where you will co-ordinate across the Practice any NHS and private work requests and appointments.

This is an outstanding opportunity to develop administrative and communication skills in a busy & challenging environment.

You will play a vitally important role by representing the Practice on the telephone, face-to-face and with written correspondence. Working with other members of the Primary Health Care Team to ensure the Practice operates professionally and efficiently.

Main Responsibilities

To be proficient in the various systems and processes within the Practice in order that you may:

  • Correspond with patients and external organisations and businesses in an efficient professional manner and process work within a reasonable timescale
  • Make private medical appointments and ensure all relevant paperwork for the appointment is ready
  • Liaise with GPs to ensure the accurate and timely return of reports and information
  • Provide clear copies of medical information in line with internal policies and procedures
  • Keep an accurate log of all work using excel spreadsheets
  • Invoice private work and pursue any unpaid invoices as necessary
  • Working with other members of the practice team across departments
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with guidelines, protocols and policies


  • Maintain patient and Practice confidentiality at all times
  • Following adequate notice undertake appropriate training whenever reasonably possible. Such training may be provided internally or externally
  • Undertake other relevant duties commensurate with the Post
  • The apprentice will need to be flexible and meet the changing needs of the Practice

Additional Requirements

  • Take part in Protected Learning Time and other training deemed necessary by the Practice. Such events may be held internally or externally. If these are not scheduled within normal working hours the Post Holder will be paid for the additional hours worked
  • Ensure that all duties of the post are carried out at all times so that they conform to:
    o Practice related Policies, Protocols, Guidelines and Procedures.
    o The legal requirements of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (as amended), the Race Relations Act 1976 (as amended) and the Disability Discriminations Action 1995 where applicable.
    o All health and safety legislation and Practice procedures.

  • Confidential. The role requires a high level of confidentiality to be maintained at all times
  • Team player & able to work from own initiative. You will need to be a good team player with the ability to plan & manage your own workload

You may also be required to work across multiple site locations, based in Quedgeley and Gloucester.

Qualifications required
4 GCSEs grades 4 to 9 (grades A*- C) or equivalent including English Language and Maths

£4.81 per hour

37.5 hours per week

Monday to Friday
Various shifts between the hours of 7.45am to 8.30pm with 1 hour unpaid lunch. Hours will vary according to business needs
