At the South West Apprenticeship Company, we help businesses to expand their talent pool and grow their business by providing unique apprentice employment solutions. We realise that not every company is the same, so our solutions are tailored to suit individual needs.

We are specialists in apprentice recruitment and employment, we manage every aspect of the apprenticeship; the apprentices are employed by SWAC and placed with ‘Host Organisations’ for the duration of the Apprenticeship because we understand the market we can provide a tailored solution for your apprenticeship and training needs.

99% of our apprentices gain permanent employment after completing their apprenticeship or progress onto higher qualifications

Meet The Team

Clare Vertigen


Clare is very hands on and is involved in every aspect of SWAC from director meetings and visiting companies through to telephone interviewing the candidates and making cups of tea! She is very approachable and doesn’t have the usual ‘Director’ persona – she’s one of the team! She has done lots of travelling in the past and enjoys food from all cultures. She is also a BIG Game of Thrones fan.


Shelley Mills

Operations Manager

Shelley is our Operations Manager, she keeps SWAC running smoothly. She deals with all SWAC staff and apprentice HR, finance and general administration. She creates forms, spreadsheets, databases, rules and regulations, protocols, files, systems, meetings and everything else we need!! She is on the countdown to June when she is seeing the Foo Fighters & Ed Sheeran!


Sally Conlon

Business Development Manager

Sally is our Business Development Manager. She worked for SWAC a long time ago, then left and then came back! (She loves us). Her role here at SWAC is to work with employers and support them with the setting up of an apprenticeship programme. She spends time with the business to discuss what it is they need from apprenticeships both for existing staff and potential new vacancies for apprentices. Her role also is to continually support the business for future planning and requirements for staff development and apprenticeships. When she’s not talking all things apprenticeships, she is at home with the latest addition to her family; a troublesome puppy!


Shelley King

Learner Account Manager

Shelley is our Learner Account Manager and has been with SWAC for 4 years. She works everywhere from Gloucester, to Bristol, to Devon! She mentors and manages our apprentices and is there to support and guide them throughout the duration of their apprenticeship. She is always at the end of the phone whenever our apprentices need some help or reassurance. She’s a star! In her spare time, Shelley enjoys collecting vinyl and is very passionate about saving the planet.


Alice Loveday

Apprenticeship Recruitment Officer

Alice is our newest recruit and we love her! She started with SWAC as a recruitment apprentice and has completed her apprenticeship so is now with us permanently. She deals with the initial recruitment; both telephone and face to face interviews and then puts the successful candidates through to the companies to be interviewed. Alice is really proactive and organised, she’s also hilarious and she keeps the office spirit high!

SWAC Apprenticeships

SWAC helps find the ideal Apprenticeship for you. We focus on your talents and interests to find the right career path and then help find the Apprenticeship vacancy to match your ambition. We can even help with CV writing and interview advice. Apprenticeship, we offer

SWAC Apprenticeships are secure. If your Host Organisation cannot host you for your entire apprenticeship SWAC will search for an alternative placement to ensure that you can continue.

SWAC Apprenticeships are safe and flexible. If things don’t work out we will work hard to find you another Host Organisation.

We provide you with more opportunity. We can arrange ‘multi location placements’ if your chosen framework requires it, and spread your Apprenticeship over several Host Companies. You would gain wider experience and broader skills by being in more than one workplace. For example, an automotive apprentice could learn ‘body work’ at one company, and ‘mechanics’ at another.

If there are any problems, we are here to fix them! We want you to succeed so we provide excellent mentoring and pastoral support to ensure your Apprenticeship runs smoothly and is successful.
