Gemma Wright is the Reception Manager at Sixways Clinic and is responsible for the supervision and management of their current apprentice, Leanne.
Gemma explained “We decided to take on an apprentice as we wanted an individual who we could train across both reception and administration and the Business Administration qualification was a perfect fit. Also, we wanted someone at the start of their career looking to develop.
We were recommended SWAC through word of mouth so we met with them and the process was explained and we went from there.”
We asked Gemma why Sixways Clinic decided to use SWAC “Having decided that we wanted an apprentice we were happy that SWAC would take away a lot of the pressure not just of the recruitment, but the whole time our apprentice is with us we have the support from SWAC. If anything was to go wrong we know we have that help and support if we needed it.
As for the recruitment of our apprentice the interview process helped us as we knew they were approved for SWAC employment before we even met the candidates. It is less work for us and we also know that any issues are dealt with head on – thankfully we haven’t had any!”
Leanne is the Apprentice at Sixways Clinic and works both on reception and in administration and is working towards completing her Level 2 Business Administration with Gloucestershire College.
Gemma, as well as the other staff at the clinic, describe the benefits that Leanne has brought to the business – “Leanne has brought many benefits and uses her initiative and gets things done equally she is not worried about asking if she is unsure, although she always knows the answer. She has been very hands on in supporting staff with a new intranet system and has real confidence when sitting down and training / helping with the new system which the team have been very thankful for. Leanne has fitted in with the team really quickly and is always flexible to cover or stay on if she needs too.”
Gemma highly recommends using SWAC, and taking on an apprentice! “We are happy with the support we receive from SWAC and aware that we have it there in the background if we do ever need it.
“We would say definitely take on a SWAC Apprentice! This whole process with Leanne has gone so well we would have another and would recommend SWAC. Having initially heard about SWAC through word of mouth and now been involved ourselves, we have seen that it has taken the pressure off us if things hadn’t have worked out and has meant less work from our side.
This has been a very rewarding process, Leanne is great and so mature too for her age. We would go through the process of having an apprentice again due to the success of Leanne.”
